Boards: Spark vs Armada

Postby harman923 » Mon Feb 21, 2011 12:53 am

For the same size 135cm, is the Spark or Armada heavier?
Also, which has more rocker?

The new Armada size is 134cm, though you'd not notice the 1cm vs the Spark. The Spark has slightly more rocker, not particularly when laid flat, but the Spark has slightly more flex under load and that presents it self as more effective rocker. The Armada v2 is also the lighter board.

Unless it's your first board I'd go with the Armada.

Would you have the specs for weight of a 135cm Spark?

Im new to kiteboading and am still debating on a board. Its between the 2011 Spark and the Armada V2.
Im 5'11" and 165 lb with a 11.5 Kahoona V3. Would you recommend the 135 Spark or the 134 or 137 Armada V2? Other than the rocker and flex you were talking about the only thing that... sways my decision is that the armada doesnt handle choppy water as good as the Spark.

I just got my friend's 2010 135 cm Armada and my 2011 spark 135 cm together.
Rocker is different, outline is slightly different and flex pattern is diferent.
Of course the spark has a nice set of channels on each end, which I think helps the board plane good and go upwind better (okay its an opinion)
The Armada V1 134cm is fast and has a sweet spot when riding it likes to be powered too.
Both of them are good boards. Try one if possible.
Even though the spark is geared towards beginner/intermediate it's super fun to ride.
I weighed them both with a "not so accurate" home scale. Simon is right they are close.
Disclaimer the spark may have had slightly wetter bindings :)
Board Weight is not everything. The rocker, flex pattern and outline are important too.
2011 Best Spark 135cm complete (wet straps) lbs * Edit* 8.5 lbs roughly
2010 Best Armada 134 cm complete 7.5 lbs
Not sure what the 2011 Armada weighs

You had wet straps, there isn't two lbs difference between the boards, more like one lb.

They are boards for different purposes, if you are fast, light on your feet and aggressive then the armada is THE choice. If you ride a little slower need more comfort and control in the chop then the Spark would be the way forward.
