I am looking at traveling with my kites. I was wondering if the golf bag thing still worked with all the added security. You r saying that there was no issues with urs??? Do they charge u extra to check it???

like i said- no problems at check in. "are those golf clubs? - Yes." ok. have a nice flight. always try curb checkin first- five bucks to the sky cabs and no problem.

I just come back from australia, and when I was checking in my golf bag the girl ask me what was this bag? I said it's a golf bag like it's written on it. I didn't lie :D

Everything was fine with the security too. When you are going in security check up you can say the truth, they are not working for your travel agency. So no problem :D

I usually get charged extra for overweight bags ... big golf bag as well as small ... if I check in at the counter, which I always do. Maybe curbside checkin is the way to go.

I travel w/my golf bag all the time.
3 kites 1 board 1 bar 1 waist harness=50lbs.
so far so good. I've never siad they were golf clubs. I know someone who was pulled off the plane because of that!
usually, they don't even ask because it says golf! I've said water sportd equipment and that usually works. just don't use the word board.

I totally agree re: curbside check in . BUT, Be sure its under the weight allowance for starters. Also, go to your local cheap sports store and buy a plastic golf club for kids (the extra short kind). Pack it so its on top of all your gear just in case they look. (which they usually dont). If they ask you whats in the bag.......just mutter "golf club". No hassles!

Baggage Weight Limits

Postby BigD » Wed Feb 28, 2007 10:17 am

I just got back from Baja and it seems most airlines have changed the weight limits on the bags from 70lbs (32 kilos) to 50lbs (23 kilos) for international and domestic flights. American Airlines was allowing up to 50lbs for each checked in bag, no additional charges. From 51-70lbs you had to pay $25 on each bag. They didn't give me a hard time about my kite bag either. I actually wrote in magic marker "Pro-Golf" to look like a logo and they didn't charge extra. In case they asked or checked I packed a chauffeur and putter club from the 1980's in my kite bag in case they checked.

i need one of these golf bags ASAP... usually i just rent a board whereever i go but that won't work this time.

what size board fits in the normal golf bag?

even better, is there anyway you can hook up a loyal best customer of 3+ years with the big golf bag? (the web page says it's out of stock, but it never hurts to ask)

really the smaller golf bag probably will work for me just need to know the measurements before i plunk down $$. couldn't find the specs on the web page....

Board Sizes for Golf Bags

Postby BigD » Mon Mar 12, 2007 9:04 am

I've seen my friend pack a 145cm in a regular golf club bag but the board got damaged because there was little clearance from the sides and she didn't pad her board. You can get away with a golf bag. I have an NSI kite board bag non golf. I wrote "Pro Golf" on it in magic marker and haven't been bothered. I paid $40 my NSI bag. It was used.

Re: Big Blue Golf Bag

Postby kitegurl » Thu Mar 11, 2010 10:02 pm

Walking confidently up to the check in counter i put my Best golf bag on the scale. Perfect. 46 pounds. Not so perfect. They asked what was in it. Its a golf bag i replied. They insisted on see inside. or I wouldn't be checked in. ok girlfriend, no golf clubs, oversized bag but not overweight. Result. ? 175 dollars Airport? Cancun. :axe: .

Worse is that there were only 2 kites and harness ( no board even - trading my kiteboard for a snow board in the mountains)

Its like the check in guys were excited that they caught a "kite" by they way they reacted. I have used the bag previously, no problems. I hope this is not the sign of times to come. United allows kite boards as one piece of check in. Is there anyway Best can lobby Delta and American and the big airlines?
