Q: How do I make my '06 Waroo 14M turn faster?

Postby kingmatt » Sat Feb 24, 2007 7:54 pm

Which rear bridle mod (Knots or single pulley or dual pulley) should I use to give the quickest turning response on my 06 Waroo 14M? I have seen various mods throughout the forums but do not know which I should use. Also does the size of the 'triangle' make any difference ie shorter triangle- longer pigtail or longer triangle with a shorter pigtail??

Put the line in front of the back of the third knot. ie towards the back tip.

SQ, will this make the the kite feel the most like a "C" kite on this setting- ie, increased bar pressure?

To add to the question, will this setting aid in boosting. Not simply by the speed at which the kite can turn to initiate the jump but actual jumping power?

Thanks,

BB

there's no such thing as jumping power, itsa combination of turning speed, which this increases, and how fast you pull the bar back, this willalso slightly increase the leverage for that purpose. so yes it will, slightly give your jumps more snap.

but it will also chnage the timing of your jumps.

I prefer the 2:1 dual pulley mod with a small triangle on my 16M. The 16 has become my favorite kite for winds under 25mph.
I also set it up on the 12M. It turns so fast it is scary and it makes it handle like a Ferrari.

The larger triangle means more bar travel before the kite responds (slop) with no apparent benefit. I found it easier to lose track of where the kite was or what it was doing.

The smaller triangle gives more precise steering with the variable turning based on bar position. It is more responsive to steering inputs in more bar positions.

On my 12M I set it up so I can oversheet the kite about 15% for a few reasons.
1. I can slow it down and keep it in the power zone easier (or even back it up). This is very helpful on snow.

2. With the progressive steering response from the 2:1 bridle, keeping more rear line tension is possible. This makes it feel like you have power steering when you crank the bar and turn hard.

3. Extra Boost when jumping in mid to upper winds.

Ken

Hi Ken, Can you give me more detail on the 2:1 pulley mod- is it the one shown in the Extremair forums? Is that YOUR waroo in your picture? May be a close up pictuire of the mod would help me understand what it does.

matt try the singlepulley on a short V first, with a stopper behind the pulley.

Ok- can you give me rough lengths for the 'V' and the stopper distance please? My current rear bridle is 2 metres long from end to end ( so the rear pigtail is at the halfway ie 1metre.

matt, the sides of the bridle triangle should be 1.5 x the distance between the rear pigtails, as measured across the back of the wingtip.

and then make sure that the knots on your flying line attachment pigtail, match the old bridle set up.

ie so you dont need to adjust the rear lines at all.

ken might have some different measurements for his layout, but these are what i used on fatblokes can fly 14m last year.

There is a French blog so the descriptions are in... well, French!
http://waroo.over-blog.com/categorie-10027533.html
There is alot of stuff for the '06 Waroos here. You can paste the French into Babblefish if you have trouble reading it.

Concerning the rear pully mod, I bought a kit for my 14 M Waroo from Dr. Tarifa rather than making one myself. http://us.mc529.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compo ... tarifa.com
He might still be making them. I bought mine in spring 2007 and I am very happy with how my 14 M now performs. It is like it has a new life. Much more stable and more steady power delivery and steering response.

Hope this helps
