As well as spending lots of resources by developing 2009 Nemesis,
Twister Tech is great but... why people should buy the more expensive (and harder water relaunching) Nemi
if Waroo 2009 is simply great in every issue and cheaper !??: .

i haven't tried the 2009 waroo but...... maybe i have just been lucky, but my 2009 Nemi 10m is perhaps the easiest reluanching kite i have flown

certainly better than the waroo 2006, 2007, bularoos, nemi pro, nemi 2008 kites i have flown

and i happen to think twister tech works and Best did an oustanding job on the Nemesis 2009 making a great all around kite

c-kites? 10% of the market would be a generous estimate from what i see - i am sure it would depend upon the conditions and what people are riding.

tight lines!

SQ,

The 2009 Nemi 10 rocks for wakestyle. It rocks. It gives you some slack in the lines after load and pop which the 2008 Nemi did not give you.

I can't do anything more wakestyle on a Ckite than what I am doing right now on my 2009 Nemi 10... and I have the safety and depower that goes with it. I am done with the days when each session was fear for my darn life in the gusty conditions we have here. NOT WORTH IT.

or you do a 15 miles solo downwinder and you have a ckite that does not have a big wind range and the wind at times is all over the place and you are stuck out there and you gotta get to end point. Who wants to deal with that number2. I DON"T.

For the last time, Alex is NOT fired. He spent a few years working hard to develop a company and now he's off enjoying the spoils. .

whoa didn't mean to ruffle some feathers. don't get a lot of time to follow this forum, so i must have missed a lot, but this is the first time i heard he;'s not with best anymore. what happened? just curious. how can a guy so deep into it just up an leave?

If you had made a number2 load of money, would you not just darn off and leave everybody else to do the work and go sit on a yacht somewhere? Seems like common sense to me...

So who started the Alex had left rumour?

If by left you mean moved his office to his family place in the Bahamas then yeh, he's left. I was thinking i might go join him, has to beat the cold wet UK winter.

He's still 100% with us.

Hi,
as far as I understand, there are just two advantages for delta shaped kites, if they are well designed ;-)

1. less drag: because there is less vertical canopy in the tips while the arc leading edge gives solid shape.

2. easy relaunch.

... what are the disadvantages of delta shapes ???

Disadvantages I've seen on Bandit.
1. Poor quality construction / poor stress analysis of loads leading to catastrophic failure of several customers kites. They released 3 versions of the Bandit in one year according to Bandit riders here.
2. Turning, it turns fast but the kite does not fly thru the turn. It's basically a YAW / SPIN turn so the power drops in the spin followed by a surge on exit.
3, bar and bridle? hmmm

Points BEST recognised on the BOW kites and cured!

Water relaunch looks great and does wind range.
From what I've seen their a torque low aspect design with high lift airfoil and the design idea has merit.

I am pretty stoked on a low AR quick turning fun kite that still goes upwind alright for sizes less than 10. Here in NorCal everyone ride Cautions or now Wainmans, or those Bandits. A fun all around kite that kills the waves and is fun to fly would be a great addition to the Best line IMHO.

I like the look of the pic above.

Fran..

Drag relates to frontal area, AOA L/D ratio and a host of other things, it's not as simple as having a sloped back edge. Something like the HP has much greater frontal area than the same size Delta, but it has way less drag. Things are never as simple as they seem.

The main benefits to the newer truncated tip design kites vary with design execution, but by and large,
1. Relaunch, this is the biggy, lack of wingtip area and a curved profile makes them easy to roll against one line.

2. A relatively benign response to bar movement, ie they aren't 'pitchy' front to back. You do trade ultimate wind range and low end power to get this, but for some riders ease of use is more important.

3. Fast turning, some of them slide the turn a little, but they do turn fast, this is more to do with the projected shape and AR than anything specific to the Delta shape. Small round kites turn fast- period.

Anything else beyond these 3 is really down to specific implementation rather than the basic shape of the kite.

I know Peter is working on balancing ease of use against increased performance, finding that sweet spot between stupid easy to fly, and retaining enough performance to excite adventurous riders.

there is definitely room for a stupid easy kite to fly and relaunch

it would be a great training kite for beginners and advanced riders

you could try things in light winds and be assured you could relaunch

also think women and smaller people who are flying smaller kites in lighter winds

Lee, It won't be as easy to fly as the Guroo, the Guroo may as well be a single line kite it's that easy to fly, but it will definitely be the easiest kite to fly that you can buy over the counter.

GUROO HP ??or BULAROO HP ??

Postby FranP » Mon Nov 03, 2008 6:27 am

Hi Simon,

*** thanks for such juicy answer !! .... that rises more questions  Is pitch movement the same than changing AOA and the other way around ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_dynamics

*** It will be great if Peter+ you can lauch a new BEST kite with the compromise of top performance wave + training kite (GUROO HP ??or BULAROO HP ??)
.... an idea could be maybe to sell the same kite with two briddles, or with two radical different line+briddle set ups .... or maybe the same kite shape with two ordering options (and price) with Cuben or without Cuben.

cheers

Fran, the idea with the new kite is to make something that anything 'can' fly, and that everyone 'wants' to fly.

Naw I've been seeing a lot of sle riders going towards c-kites with the wakestyle movement in Hatteras. More and more people are coming up to me on my campus here at Old Dominion University wanting to build sliders and kickers in the river were on, so i see wake style going way more mainstream than any other aspect. In the mid Atlantic, next to strapless waveriding i see more people switching over from their 127 boosty boards, to wake specific set ups and throwing their tricks with the kite at 45.

I didn't think about buying a best kite in 08 after the yarga that i flew in 07.

I also have seen a couple wake oriented companies make it with their consistently good gear, and a see a few trying to go in that direction. There is also a company in the making that will have a strong fallowing.

Shannon... what was your original vision on what you wanted to push was when you first started the company?

It also sad to see someone that has never kited before get on a quiver of 02 kites because it was $80 complete with board leash and all.

Slezak and Moe both ride SLEs now to the best of my knowledge.

I would like to see best develop a "fun, advanced" kite a bit quicker, gruntier, simpler than the waroo, but not as high AR as the HP that might fill the niche desired for waves and wakestyle advanced riders who are less worried about boosting and more worried about kite at 45 and wave performance. Like an 05 Fuel that is more forgiving and better upwind...

Just wondering if you are talking about 2008 Waroo and Nemesis here? Have you ridden the 2009 stuff already?
