Please Vote for the Name of the New Best Flat Kite

We are in the final stages of testing and prototyping the new best "flat" kite. We've been waiting in the wings, observing and testing every other brand's flat kite down here in Brazil and we think we've come up with an amazing kite. It minimizes the negatives found in most "bow" type kites (bar pressure, inverting, sliding through turns, cumbersome bridles, complicated bars and perhaps most importantly, PRICE) and maximizes the positives (safety & de-power, lift, hangtime, turning speed, responsiveness & re-launch).

But we need your help... We need to decide on a name for the kite.

Everyone in the office has narrowed it down to either Allura or Waroo. Both words come from an Australian Aboriginal dielect (like Yarga). Allura was the name of a tribe from the Northern Territory and Waroo is the Aboriginal word for "fire" (it is also the name of a fish found in Brazil, but that is unrelated to the Aboriginal history of the word).

So help us out and vote for your favorite.

The Waroo or Allura will be available in 2006 and we anticipate the kite to start at $499.

Rest assured, the Waroo or Allura pictured will not be one of the production colors. Our factory sends us a lot of orange prototypes, guess they overordered that color, although the orange/white Yarga Pro does look hot. My personal favorite is the Black/Pink Yarga. See below for all the color options for the 2006 Best Product Line-Up...

I suspect I'll buy at least one, if not two of these guys.

Unless these flat kites are hard to self-launch....

Really you guys are the only ones to I'll buy "experimental" kites from, since you demonstrated your willing to refund with the Hellfish...

My vote is for Waroo, but more importantly I'd love to see a 16M flat kite made by BEST!

What sizes are you guys going to offer?

I have been testing Best's flat kite (The Waroo or Allura) for a while now
and i just cant get enough of it, i been mainly just riding all the time on
the flat kite.
Its like having 3 different types of kites made in one (hangtime, power and
speed).
The kite is very responsive and has little bar pressure which i love
especially in the waves. You dont have to force the bar to turn the kite
when hitting the wave, also whats great is the depower, it fully depowers
killing the power of the kite allowing you to hit the lip of the wave at
alot of speed and not overshooting the wave instead, like on regular kites.

Also what i found amazing when i first flew our flat kite at the beginning
of the year is the hang time, because of the extra surface area on the
canopy it allows you to get the height and distance from a flat kite which
is awsome. Also when in the air you dont have to worry about flying the kite
around trying to stop youself from flying under your kite. The flat kite
just sits above your head, because its shaped like a wing it flies, so when
in the air the kite flies along the wind window, which helps the kite travel
with you and allowing you to keep it above your head.

Doing technical tricks on it made things alot more enjoyable. With the power
the kite generates it gives more pop when edging. Also doing kiteloop handle
passes, with the responsiveness of the kite and little bar pressure, you get
the height you need allowing you to land softer and also the turning speed
of the kite making it easier to loop the kite and has less force during the
loop decreasing your chances of hurting your shoulders.

When our flat kites come out and you see one try it out and see for
yourself, it's awesome.

Bummer i didnt get to use a 9m prototype in the PKRA but wasnt allowed as we didnt announce it yet, but next year for sure.
I was super stoked on at least getting to ride on our new Yarga Pros for the contest

Choice of names for new kite

Postby ericw » Fri Nov 18, 2005 11:08 pm

Alex,

Here's some honest feedback. I like "Waroo" better than "Allura" ("Allura" would be more appropriate for the name of a new Buick sub-compact). "Waroo" is somewhat adequate, but is not memorable at all (nobody is going to be aware of the derivation of the word), so what you are left with is the sound of the word.

What about "Flatster" (in italics). I always like a name that suggests what the product is. If this is a "different" kite, with the difference being its flat shape, then give it a "different" name, with at least a little bit of meaning.

"Flatster" sounds cool, like "dragster", whereas "Waroom" and "Allura" do not conjure up any images at all (with the exception of the Buick).
